Bituminous mastics operate according to a similar principle as bituminous paints. They fulfil an important role in renovation and maintenance of bituminous waterproof roofing. However, bituminous mastics can only be used at air and base temperatures above +5°C.
A protective effect of bituminous mastics lasts for 7–9 years. It reduces the temperature of the roofing and the roof deck. Bituminous mastic can also be used for sticking of shingles.
