Road Bitumens

General Characteristics
At normal temperatures, road bitumens are semi-solid to solid homogeneous bitumen substances. They are produced as residual fractions of vacuum distillation of the atmospheric crude oil residual fraction, by blowing crude oil residual fractions or by mixing oxidized asphalts with crude oil residual fractions.

Application
Road bitumens are used for the production of penetration macadams, packaging mixtures, cast asphalts, for the construction and maintenance of asphalt roads, sidewalks, for the bottom layer of roads and in the production of asphalt concrete.

Packaging, Storage, Transportation
Road bitumens are supplied in railroad tank wagons fitted with heating coils or in road tankers modified for the purposes of road asphalt transportation. Road asphalt storage, transportation and handling must comply with respective legal regulations.

Basic Safety Data
Road bitumens may have a negative impact on skin especially. Contact with hot asphalt causes burns. Road bitumens are not classified as hazardous chemical substances. Crude oil and tar asphalts may not be mixed.
